Impact
With all of the publicity and response BLT received from the Inspired Living Segment we have been so fortunate to meet many other people just like us; impacted by cancer in different ways. There are so many kind and compassionate people willing to reach out their hand to give so that someone else can be reminded they are not alone.
The donations, offers for assistance, referrals have been pouring in and we are so blessed that we are able to continue to give back to the community and reach out to organizations such as St. Judes with the help of others.
BLT has been blessed and we continue to prosper. We are so very close to submitting our 501C application so that we can become official and impact the lives of many more individuals and families.
It is surreal - we can feel excitement that we are able to help so many people, and so much sadness because the numbers of people impacted by cancer is growing. Children and adults are overwhelmed with the diagnosis, the treatments, the cost. The impact that cancer has on the lives of so many can be devastating. The impact can also have the reverse effect and the person(s) will find a way they can impact the life of someone else.
Just recently a BLT soldier was impacted by the loss of a dear friend, another cancer patient she met while having treatments herself. This impact was two fold, not only did she lose a dear friend, she had to face a reality that not all cancer patients survive. Then again, none of us 'survive' in the end. There is a special place we will all go one day, how will you spend your days? Impacting the lives of others or waiting for someone to impact yours?
No matter the answer BLT is here... Battling Life Together. Thank you all for impacting our lives and helping us to impact the lives of others.

Cancer Prevention Food Tips
Green Tea
Since ancient times, tea has been used as both beverage and medicine. Both black and green teas contain numerous active ingredients, including polyphenols and flavonoids, which are potent antioxidants.
One class of flavonoids called catechins has recently become the focus of widespread study for their anti-cancer potential. Tea is the best source of catechins in the human diet, and green tea contains about three times the quantity of catechins found in black tea.
In laboratory studies, green tea has been shown to slow or completely prevent cancer developent in colon, liver, breast and prostate cells. Other studies involving green tea have shown similar protective effects in tissues of the lung, skin and digestive tract.
Studies that track the diets of human subjects over several years (particularly studies conducted in Asia, where green tea consumption is common) have also associated regular usage of green tea with lower risk for bladder, colon, stomach, pancreatic and esophageal cancers.
AICR's second expert report, Food, Nutrition, Physical Activity, and the Prevention of Cancer: A Global Perspective, was unable to make a recommendation regarding the relationship between tea consumption and cancer risk due to insufficient evidence.
Note: Very high amounts of green tea components (usually associated with overdosage of green tea supplements) have been shown to interact with drugs that affect blood clotting such as aspirin and change the way the body metabolizes certain medications.

Thanks David for your interest in BLT and the submission of this wonderful article you have allowed

Once an individual suffering from cancer begins their cancer treatment, they should start to maintain a much healthier lifestyle. Eating properly and exercising on a regular basis will help a cancer patient in many different ways. Some of the benefits of maintaining a healthier lifestyle by eating healthy and exercising would include an improvement in self-confidence, major reduction of stress, increased energy levels, and an overall happier mood.
There are many different exercises that can be performed by cancer patients and survivors. Some of these exercises include stretches for flexibility, walking, running, swimming, and even lifting weights. A cancer patient or cancer survivor should consult with their physician prior to exercising just to make sure that the physician feels it is alright for the individual to take part in such exercises. Most physicians will even recommend exercise to cancer patients and cancer survivors because of the major benefits.
